“Hello, Sailor!” could have been the title of Anthony Vaccarello’s spring show. His runway was full of endless gams and ample cleavage — a steamy display tamed slightly by pert nautical tailoring.
Cropped tailcoats paired with asymmetrical miniskirts had a rock ’n’ roll sensibility as they were fabricated in striped denim, a great complement to Vaccarello’s habitual lust for leather. “I wanted more pieces for the girls to choose from, not just dresses,” the designer explained backstage. There was even a slouchy pair of pants that looked almost chaste.
The maritime theme continued with ultrashort miniskirts held together by the kind of snap hooks and grommets you might find on a boat. Vaccarello also experimented with prints for the first time, more precisely the letters of his name laser-cut and stamped onto skirts and dresses — fun, yet perhaps a tad late to the logo revival.
