Carrie Bradshaw’s sojourn to Abu Dhabi in “Sex and the City 2” and the youthful innocence of Sophie in the film “Mamma Mia” fueled Ryan Lo’s smile-inducing collection for spring.
There’s no doubt the designer’s ubergirly, almost kitschy, aesthetic doesn’t appeal to everyone (especially minimalists). But Lo stretched himself, confidently going outside his comfort zone to experiment with bias cuts for the first time. One long rainbow-striped spaghetti strap dress had bias-cut panels and waterfall frills inserted into the seams. Like many of the looks, this had a Seventies vibe — perhaps a result of all those Abba songs.
Pants were also new to the mix. A shimmery lilac pair of cropped dungarees had piratical buttoned cuffs at the ankles, while a pair of well-cut shiny ice-blue trousers were belted with a tasseled tie and teamed with a long, sheer lavender cardigan.

The dressier pieces — especially the sequined black shift with brown sequined octopi — were also new but could have been finished better. The overall impression here, however, was of increasing confidence.
