On top of waste, there’s one thing in the fashion industry that Kevin Germanier wants to combat: the idea that designers have to switch up their aesthetic constantly to feed a bottomless appetite for novelty. “This whole period made me realize that as a designer, particularly an emerging one, you have to find your niche and mine it to the max,” he said.
The look: Statement jackets, no pants — or close enough. Barely there skirts and too-short shorts create the legs-for-days look that fits Germanier’s “fantasy Barbie Doll world where the girl goes short for a look that’s equal parts ‘Real Housewife’ and ‘dare to bare’ sexiness.”
Quote of note: “It’s very digital, very manga, with a feeling that we’ve almost become aliens on the planet given what we have done [to it],” said the Swiss designer, who captured his collection on Amelia Gray Hamlin, the daughter of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Lisa Rinna.
Standout pieces: The jersey separates, which transform Germanier’s bling into easy to reach for options; the simpler crystalized blazers; the knitwear, introduced last season, revisiting the idea of prim dressing in a riot of colors and cheeky asymmetric hemlines.
