The Elder Statesman’s Greg Chait is never one to shy from a good narrative when it comes to his collections. Past iterations have seen everything from good-luck charms, talismans and now a play on anxiety that morphed into the game of life — everything from the modern Nineties Sega references to the Medieval games such as Snakes and Ladders and Pachisi.
“We became the gamers, and it felt really fun to do it that way,” said Chait as he pointed to the massive set that was created in his Los Angeles studio in collaboration with British printmaker Sophy Hollington. The set served as a backdrop to this season’s look book, done up in a vibrant black-and-blue checkered backdrop, with celestial representations of the Los Angeles landscape along with a resemblance of actual game boards.
The lineup was as meticulous and rich as we’ve come to expect of Chait’s designs, offering several styles with very literal references to gaming, such as a tie-dye sweater with the wording of “Wild Card,” “Win some, Lose some” along the sides of the arm of a green intarsia knit, and even a Ouija board.

Other inclusions of theme translated into a hand-embroidered kantha stitch shirt to resemble a colorful board game path, a blue-and-black-checkered silk slipdress, and various colorful striped knitwear, cardigans and cozy cashmere pants and not to mention a pair of psychedelic tie-dyed Sherpa coat with matching pant, all which felt appropriate for this particular game.
Life is just one big game, and Chait definitely was successful in presenting a fun and vibrant lineup, that made us want to go out and be one of the players.
