“It’s about a jockey in the race: on one side the whole casualness of the jockey, but also horsehair elements,” said Akris designer Albert Kriemler at his resort presentation at the James Hotel’s Urban Garden. The setting — a wooden terrace surrounded by shrubbery — reinforced the equestrian-themed ease and functionality of the collection. For starters, Kriemler had several color-blocked jockey blouses and knits on display, as well as a memorable short silk dress printed with silhouetted horses and riders, which could easily go from day into evening. In other looks, jockey figures were literally represented via a graphic print — most prominently on a short coat.
But it was the more discreet pieces which stood out for their sophistication — and practicality. “Clothes have to look good, but they also have to serve a purpose,” Kriemler said, demonstrating the reversibility of several houndstooth jacquard knits and a superb cashmere jacket.
