Sporty and playful, M Missoni’s pre-fall collection was rooted in American leisure in the Sixties. Bowling, drive-in movies and the carefree lifestyle portrayed in George Lucas’ 1973 film “American Graffiti” were all points of reference for Angela Missoni. To some degree, the house’s signature trippy zigzag and chevron prints always draw a retro association, yet the lineup felt energetic and modern. She reworked athletic, preppy staples — polo shirts, sweat suits, sweater vests, bombers — in neon color-blocked intarsia and metallic lurex knits. A few looks showcased more unexpected fabrics. Boyish knee-length shorts in latex and sweaters accented with foil-like silver lamina imparted a futuristic, Space Age vibe.
