Severe, extravagant, eccentric. Consuelo Castiglioni’s pre-fall collection was a hefty serving of Marni’s aesthetic codes. Androgynous streamlined silhouettes were juxtaposed with asymmetric lines and hyper-feminine details; leather and fur came in a range of luxurious options — a natural-colored calf coat; an intarsia mink vest — graphic patterns were bold and colorful. An ample skirt embellished with maxi fur pom-poms was cut from heavy felt, also used for a vest featuring a sculpted, round-hem back. Layering was key. Long, bonded crepe dresses were worn over collarless silk shirts, while a sequin argyle vest came over an argyle-print dress. A ballerina printed, ruffled silk georgette dress represented a very feminine point of view, while more masculine fare included oversize corduroy pants with a two-tone sweater and maxicoat. The collection was rich yet unforced.
