Prabal Gurung cited several inspirations for pre-fall, including Robert Mapplethorpe’s tulips and a contemporary installation he saw at Versailles by Korean artist Lee Ufan. Of the latter, the designer “loved the idea of this opulent staging with this simpler, stark idea,” which was evident in the clothes. He used bold graphics on elegant silhouettes, such as the abstract florals in varying patterns on a silk crepe de chine top and silk cotton sateen skirt featuring a silk chiffon sash (Gurung referred to this detail as a “flyaway drape”).
Elsewhere, he demonstrated a high-polish sensibility, particularly for evening, which included several cocktail dresses, such as a chic bustier style adorned with threaded chiffon for a feathery effect.
