In a season where summer suits are trending, Julien David gave his a crinkled look via a wildly pleated summer wool fabric, which he said he steamed twice to give it the amount of memory needed. They added a comfy aspect to bottoms, especially, which ranged from Bermuda shorts and stovepipe pants to baggy overalls.
“I always try to play with suits in a new way, and for me, the fabric gives the way,” he said backstage before the show, which saw models sporting embroidered face masks communicating their current state of mind, including worried, serene and funny.
The notion of feather-light dressing continued on soft, and also crinkled, cowhide leather parkas, which in combination with a cropped, full-leg trouser, gave David’s youthful gang a more grown-up cool.
A cheerful print the designer labeled as “mutant daisies” added spice and funk to the mainly blue, gray and burgundy palette.
