A whiff of the bucolic — of woodlands, wildlife and cold, clean air — has settled on this gray city of concrete and cobblestones, and nowhere more so than at Ferragamo. Creative director Massimiliano Giornetti laid his runway with fresh dirt, set up a backdrop with shadowy images of trees and designed an elegant collection around nature’s creations.
Short wool coats were printed with a flying bird motif while longer ones were embroidered with flowers, such as dandelions — although they didn’t seem very commercially grounded. Another overcoat had a zebra-like patchwork across the shoulders.
For cold, dark days there were lumberjack coats and jackets with blurred checks in delicate pinks and greens, weather-beaten shearlings with cracked brown leather on the outside, and long, ribbed duffle-style sweaters. Scarves were big and dramatic, including a cream, raw-edged shearling number so thick and fluffy it almost said “Baa.”
