Easy luxury is a good way to describe Marc Jacobs’ strong fall men’s effort, headlined by traditional patterns and fabrics, woodsy colors and slouchy volumes — all mixed with an East Village hipster sensibility.
The collection had loads of personality: cardigans as hairy as Mr. Snuffleupagus; chalk-striped and Prince of Wales suits with zany leopard-print linings; silk shirts in Nirvana plaids and dark florals, and nutmeg corduroy parkas and trousers with a funky Seventies vibe.
Iconic New York characters ranging from James Dean to Quentin Crisp were pinned to the mood board, explaining the freewheeling and quirky mix (animal-print pajamas) and classic Americana (shirts and coats with a Western twang). Everything was rendered in luxe fabrics, including Aran sweaters and cardigans in wool and yak fibers and a military jacket with a zip-out lining of sheared beaver.
