Lela Rose’s fall 2021 collection takes the brand back to its roots, where everything is “coming up roses.” The designer’s seasonal catch-phrase translated literally into the collection through bloom-covered feminine attire fit for dressing up, no matter the occasion.
“When we showed before, it was all about showing you the fantasy of where I’d be wearing these clothes, what the clothes were designed for — matching cocktails and canapés to the collection, re-creating the party that I would see you throwing wearing the clothes,” Rose explained over Zoom. “Now of course, we’re not going to be able to do that, but I think we all need some reason to get excited and socialize.”
The collection started with a signature rose print, which adorned smart reversible fluid dresses. “Our version of a discount, a two-for-one,” Rose quipped, modeling one of the pink and red designs inside of her brand’s Midtown Manhattan showroom. The idea translated into easy wrap skirts with print-block details displaying two colorways of the print, paired with knubby aubergine sweaters. Leaning into playful separates, Rose offered a Swiss dot tulle skirt with macro rose embroidery, paired with a classic white shirt with delicate rose embroidered details along the cuffs. Rosey details were key to the collection, adorned as gold buttons and embroidered brooch-like-buttons atop girly capelet suit sets, monochromatic dresses and skirt sets. The designer pushed the idea further through dressier, file coupe frocks.

Although New York’s fall season ahead is once again scheduled to take place as a prominently digital event, Rose is looking forward to dressing up in her feel-good feminine attire and hosting on her showroom’s adjacent, fabulous terrace in the future.
“I think our shows will be much more personal appointments sitting on the terrace, but I’m still hiring the whole kit-and-caboodle,” the designer explained, later adding, “For the time being, shows for us will be fun cocktails, live music, outside and they’ll probably be for me, to enjoy myself!”
