Sandro founder and artistic director Evelyne Chétrite leaned into velvet this season, using it for dresses, cropped jackets, hoodies and a navy playsuit. For her inspiration, she dove deep into the Victorian era — pulling out ruffles, lace, brocade and brooches to create easy-to-wear shapes for 2017.
The designer also brought in a retro sporting vibe with varsity sweaters and pleated dresses that would have been at home at a midcentury high-school track meet. The result was a wardrobe for contemporary women that offered both on-trend street credibility as well as a hefty dose of dress-up-box cachet.
To keep up with the store’s strategy of frequent replenishments in-season, the sprawling collection brought in additional themes like printed silk blouses with sailor tattoo motifs, slogan tops emblazoned with phrases like “Girls can dream” and “Just love u.”
