If the mission of Pierre Mahéo, the founder of men’s wear brand Officine Générale, is to also carve out a niche in the affordable luxury market for women’s wear, he got off to a solid start with his debut collection.
The designer paid as much attention to the construction of the pieces here as he does to his men’s tailoring, making them just as beautiful on the inside, like one of the coats in a beautiful herringbone by Loro Piana, with taping and piping details on the interior. A lot of the outerwear also sported deep pockets, with old-school newspaper pockets on the inside of the jackets, all the better for going about one’s day hands free.
The line’s fitted blazers in Italian velvets in saturated hues were to die for, as was the mouse gray, full-velvet coat with covered buttons and two different sleeve constructions, and a sweet-and-simple white cotton blouse with a collar construction and raw-edge ruff collar. Not forgetting the line’s fitted suit in a lightweight flannel with two choices of pants.

Officine Générale is not a brand about highfalutin fashion concepts, with as its raison d’être impeccably finished basics in premium fabrics from Britain, Italy and Japan, which there is plenty room for. All that was missing in terms of great daywear propositions were dresses and skirts, which will be added next season.
