Joie fused its hippie-chic ethos with a more androgynous air for fall, continuing a move initiated in its spring collection, working soft knit blazers and wrap coats, boyfriend jeans, plaids and pajama styles into its lineup. Imagining Marianne Faithfull in the Sixties in Yves Saint Laurent’s Marrakech home, vice president of design Rachel Wilder-Hill worked in a palette encompassing dusty pink, soft gray, navy, black and burgundy.
Contrasting with Joie’s staple array of pretty print blouses and dresses were items like a gray sweater dress with a kick-pleat back detail, shirt collar and narrow ribbon tie; opulent black velvet pajamas; a wrap skirt designed to look like a North African rug, and an A-line plaid peacoat woven with gray thread to look like a faded tartan. An outsize pale pink wool cardigan coat looked particularly cozy, while velvet boyfriend jeans in the same hue played along with the boy-meets-girl theme.
