Erika Cavallini delivered a fantasy spin on Eighties power dressing with her fall collection, which was a cocktail of oversized tailoring, deconstruction and daring color combinations.
She opened with a sequence of asymmetric ruffled skirts made from recycled trenchcoats and paired them with patchwork sweaters. A raincoat, meanwhile, was spliced together from two separate halves.
Cavallini gave the scissor-hands treatment to pastel sequined dresses that unraveled in a mess of raw seams. They were topped with oversized men’s jackets — a recurring theme of the display. Some had their sleeves lopped off, while others were nipped and tucked in unexpected places to play with proportions.
Colors ran the gamut from neutrals to intense jewel tones. Deep blue hues were used to powerful effect on an outfit pairing ultrahigh-waist baggy leather pants with a color-block sweater and a pinstriped jacket with pushed-up sleeves.
Fans of Cavallini’s work include Kendall Jenner — but some of the quieter looks in this lineup suggested how even working stiffs can make their office wardrobe more creative.
