Saloni Lodha has been spending the majority of her time in Hong Kong, so it was only natural that her latest collection was infused with elements of Asian culture. In particular, Lodha looked to portraits of the Chinese-American actress Anna May Wong wearing floral dresses and plush velvet draped blouses. She tried to incorporate the same rich textures and delicate embroideries into her own collection, while maintaining a modern sensibility.
The result was a pretty and unapologetically feminine lineup that stood out for its luxurious fabrics and bold colors. There were dresses galore in a variety of lengths, from a mini long-sleeved number in multicolored florals to a rich forest green style cut on the bias. There were romantic, maxi options, too. A navy calf-length dress done in a burnout devoré fabric with bright prints was among the highlights.
The brand is best known for its girly, contemporary-priced dresses, but Lodha said by using more embellishment in her work, she’s been able to introduce a new higher price point and offer made-to-order pieces.
