Steadily becoming known as a go-to designer for event dressing, Katie Ermilio showed a fall lineup “inspired by her travels and time spent outdoors” in two disparate places: Spain and Montana. But any obvious references were missing in this subtle yet chic collection.
Ermilio’s take on evening started with a focus on classic designs, but added detailing in both cut and silhouette to give the pieces a fresh look. A dark silk chiffon fit-and-flare dress with an open back and necktie had velvet leaf appliqués — but abstracted so as not to be immediately obvious. This neck treatment did an about-face on a scoop-neck cream A-line dress that tied in the front for a choker effect. A stunner was the peacock-blue strapless cocktail dress with train detail, a look that could have quickly gone retro but stayed the course. Ermilio also added some fox toppers — a forest green chubby and natural red fox stole worn over a camel car coat — to complete her looks.
