For their third collection and second New York Fashion Week show, Area designers Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk explored the idea of hardcore femininity. “We looked at pictures of women who had just had their nails done, the shine, the gloss,” explained Panszczyk.
This translated into inventive propositions of super-woman stature, beginning with looks in an embossed baroque pattern — the duo’s signature — such as a metallic pink lamé strapless dress and an unapologetic pink fur, followed by a bodysuit with almost-to-the-hip thigh-highs. Slightly more toned down was a black T-shirt embellished with a pink fur bra and paired with black embossed high-waist pants.

For men, the duo summoned just as much girl power, showing an embossed denim parka with pink fur lining and matching pants and a head-to-toe metallic fuchsia ensemble. “The feminine and masculine concept does not mean anything to us…people talk on those terms, but for us it’s much more organic…we just dress up in all the clothes and play with it,” the designers explained, finishing each other’s sentences.
But what’s a female fest without some bling? As icing, Fogg and Panszczyk collaborated with Swarovski to add touches of crystal to simple black Ts, and most memorably, a flesh-tone one-shoulder jumpsuit.
