Can a skirt with a high, corseted waist be considered athleisure? It can when it’s in buttery suede and has a knit panel at the back for comfort.
Ditto an anorak in winter white — waterproof wool outside, channels of down inside.
Creative director Paul Helbers added shearling to the Callens mix for fall, carving lightweight skins into fur-collared vests or drawstring parkas. The clipped wool also tipped the sleeves of elongated bomber jackets, among the most compelling items in the collection.
Callens makes the kind of clothes you’ll see in business and first class, and in cafés outside the chicest yoga studios. They’re the brainchild of Claire-Anne Stroll, wife of industry tycoon Lawrence Stroll, who characterized the clothes as “inspired by the world of activewear” but likely to be worn “with a little stiletto.”
