Marking the tenth season for her label, Phoebe English took a moment to muse on today’s relentless fashion system.
She presented her collection in a room at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts, where models sat listlessly waiting in line for a photographer to shoot the look they were wearing. “It’s about the cycle of fashion, and how it keeps going and never ends,” said English. “Not in a negative way, as an observation.”
English had also designed the clothes to reflect a “dystopian” mood. Skirts were done in a black and white basket weave that mimicked TV static, while a maroon latex dress was worn over a white shirt with frayed sleeves. The collection was limited to 10 detailed, conceptual looks.
