Sally LaPointe found her fall muse in German choreographer and modern dancer Pina Bausch. “I came across her work, and it was her larger message that took me,” the designer said backstage. “Bausch had this ability to both shock and inspire; it was about being very honest, and also a little crude, with her work.”
The dance influence was clear in fluid printed-silk dresses and pleated skirts, as well as separates with fringe and dresses with cutaway strips, all of which allowed for movement. She masterfully juxtaposed the collection’s rich textures, as in a silver satin skirt paired with a fur and cashmere-wool sleeveless sweater.
In fact, lush fox and mink were plentiful, used on the collars of leather bomber jackets and in accessories such as cowl scarves and pony hair clutches. Evening looks included a creamy winter-white set with metallic embroidery and a long-sleeve gown covered in reptile-print metallic sequins — at once elegant and, well, badass.
