Serge Azria wants to elevate his Joie brand, so he started by incorporating more luxe fabrics — suedes, shearlings and leathers — into his modern bohemian lineup. His fall inspirations were twofold: For the more casual looks, he was inspired by “Hair,” the 1968 Broadway musical. “There was all this social revolution, which brought about a counterculture way of life,” Azria said. He captured the vibe by mixing and layering knits in unexpected ways. His long sweater dresses, belted cardigans and suede skirts, most of which were styled with over-the-knee suede boots, oozed a subtle sexiness.
Azria said he was also “totally obsessed” with the long dresses Ossie Clark designed during London’s Swinging Sixties era. Riffing on the idea in his own way, Azria designed a chic pair of long-sleeve maxidresses in red and navy printed silk, both diaphanous in texture.
