Daniel Silverstain got to thinking about tourists discovering India during the Sixties — as well as his own personal travels there — and infused his fall lineup with vibrant colors, textures and geometric shapes derived from the country’s heritage. “I had never seen an interpretation of Indian culture in a modern, futuristic way, which is my favorite thing to do,” he said.
Mixing rich textures in a single garment has become Silverstain’s signature. This season, he fused jacquards, cashmeres, silks and leathers, some of which came treated with a lattice jaali motif found in Indian architecture or accented with fringe and beading. Pleated skirt underlays added a sexy fluidity to more structured dresses, while Silverstain’s motorcycle jackets were updated for the season with shearling accents in textured and metallic leather.
