Sam Smith walked the runway for the first time during Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood’s fall 2024 ready-to-wear presentation on Saturday as part of Paris Fashion Week. The singer donned two dramatic looks from the Renaissance-inspired collection.
The “Unholy” singer first appeared wearing a multi-colored layered look. The ensemble consisted of a light green long-sleeve top and a pair of bottomless checkered print shorts in a blue, green, orange and purple colorway. The two pieces were styled with a combination scarf-shawl in a burnt orange checkered print, orange and black checkered-printed socks and a pair of heeled plaid platform boots. For extra drama, they were accessorized with a wooden walking stick.

For Smith’s styling, the star wore a long black wig thrown messily into a high ponytail. Spilling slightly onto Smith’s face, the wig was pushed back with a headband crafted in the same plaid textile as the high-waisted shorts.
Additionally, Smith, like many of the other models, wore a codpiece inspired strap-on outside of his shorts. Inspired by the popular fashion statement codpiece’s acted as for a duration of the Italian Renaissance, the strap-ons were added to several looks solely for amusement purposes.
“The menswear in the Renaissance was quite interesting. There was all these laws against wearing too revealing clothes. In Florence they’d put you in prison because at one point the men really let it all hang out,” said Kronthaler backstage.
Smith’s second look was an all-black ensemble that featured a mesh halter top and a floor-length ruffled long-sleeve wrap dress. Styled with a large tulle-adorned hat, pair of fingerless gloves and oversized leather handbag, the look utilized the textural elements of each material to create dimension within the monochromatic color palette.
“Essentially, the collection challenged the notion of elegance in today’s culture. One can argue the bottomless check look Sam Smith sported was pure chaos, but to the fans of Vivienne Westwood, elegance came from within, and Smith has plenty of it,” WWD reported on the collection.
In addition to walking in Vivienne Westwood’s fall 2024 ready-to-wear presentation, Smith was seen at partner Christian Cowan‘s front row at Harmonie Club on Sunday evening wearing a star-printed button-up shirt tucked into a full-length black bell skirt.
