It’s officially the summer Belly Conklin got a bob, a French bob.
After returning to Amazon Prime on July 16 for its third and final season, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” released its series finale on Wednesday morning, and it’s already drawing big reactions for the main character’s major beauty moment.
Last week, the romance triology turned teen drama series created by Jenny Han, concluded with Belly, played by Lola Tung, telling a Parisian hairstylist she’s ready for a change this summer, leading fans to believe she would unveil a French bob in the final episode. Sure enough, she did.

In the highly anticipated finale, Belly is seen with her hair chopped above her shoulders for the first time in the series’ history. The fresh style was intended as a harbinger for the character’s newfound sense of self following her contentious love triangle with two brothers — Jeremiah and Conrad Fisher, played by Gavin Casalegno and Christopher Briney respectively — which resulted in one abandoned wedding and a sibling fued.
While the French bob felt particularly fitting for Tung’s character considering the last three episodes centered around her new life in Paris, the style is also on par with fall hair trends. The bob alone has led as a top aesthetic among the upper echelons of Hollywood recently — from Leslie Bibb to Sarah Catherine Hook, trickling down to the everyday woman on the street — but the French bob is poised to be the style of choice this autumn. The cut is finer than the original bob, and usually kept chin-length. However, Belly’s was left much longer.
Though surprising, the hair transformation wasn’t Belly’s first major beauty update this season. In fact, she’s been seen wearing more makeup than she did in the first two seasons. Season Three Belly has favored a prominent cat-eye and a handful of viral products, from Glossier’s Ultralip High Shine Lipstick to Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner.
“She’s wearing makeup that enhances her natural features, rather than transforming her look,” makeup artist and Black Radiance ambassador Tamara Boyd previously told WWD, describing her aesthetic as subtle, elevated and natural.
Underneath the products, Boyd pointed out, is hydrated skin, courtesy of Evian’s Glow Facial Mist and Supergoop’s Play Everyday Sunscreen. A still shot of Belly’s vanity shared by Han on Instagram earlier in the season revealed a few additional staples in her product lineup: Fresh’s Rose Deep Hydration Toner, Deep Hydration Oil-Infused Serum and Moisturizer, as well as Byoma’s Clarifying Serum and The Ordinary’s Balancing Clarifying Serum.
