Looking Back at All the Fashion From ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ 2006 Press Tour

Twenty years after the premiere of “The Devil Wears Prada,” Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep are method dressing to the max ahead of the highly anticipated sequel, scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 1.

With “what would Andy Sachs and Miranda Priestley wear today” top of mind, Hathaway and Streep are not only paying homage to key moments from the original film (in cerulean blue no less) but giving fans a sneak peek at their characters’ modern-day aesthetic.

On March 31, the two touched down in Mexico City for the first red carpet premiere in Schiaparelli and Stella McCartney, respectively. Styled by Micaela Erlanger, Streep’s look featured a navy blue satin shirtdress with gold buttons, long sleeves and a big buckle waistbelt, while Hathaway’s consisted of a sequin mini dress and thigh-high boots, thanks to Erin Walsh.

Both outfits were considerably more glamorous than those they wore during the 2006 press run. Here, the fashion fell within the framework of quintessential early 2000s style, mostly understated and occasionally elevated. Hathaway wore tank top dresses, strapless Prada gowns and one-shoulder designs, while Streep sported skirt sets, pant suits, floral brooches and skinny, blue-tinted frames.
