Zendaya brought an underwater aesthetic to “The Drama” premiere in New York on Thursday night, ahead of the film’s release in theaters on Friday.
Next to her costar, Robert Pattinson, the actress paired her “something blue” with a wet, slicked-back bixie, thanks to Ursula Stephen. The style marked a major avant-garde milestone in the evolution of her 1920s-inspired hairdo, which began with face-framing, flapper ends and a stark side part at the Los Angeles premiere on March 17.
Slowly but surely, Stephen has added more texture to Zendaya’s ultra-short cut, ending with crunchy, matted-down curls courtesy of Moroccanoil, on Thursday. Here, a single strand fell over the “Euphoria” star’s right eye, just below the shadow in her waterline. Her makeup, like her feathered Schiaparelli gown, boasted a kaleidoscope of blue, crafted by Ernesto Casillas. Shimmery cerulean shadow accentuated the shape of her eyes, while her lips were dressed down in rose-taupe liner and nude gloss.

Stephen first chopped Zendaya’s hair in Louis Vuitton’s 130th anniversary campaign for its Monogram canvas this past February. Originally popularized by first lady of New York Rama Duwaji, the bixie is spring’s hot new hair trend. Now known as the “Rama,” the cut is described as a “modern precision bob,” with messy layers and natural movement throughout. “The shape is tailored with soft graduation, so it frames the face without heavy layers throughout the crown,” celebrity stylist Antonio Velotta previously told WWD.
At “The Drama” premiere in Rome on March 26, Zendaya’s bixie strayed from traditional form with messy waves covering the right side of her face. For the Paris premiere, Stephen imagined a sophisticated style, with 1960s heroine-esque pin curls. Now, as press for HBO’s “Euphoria” ramps up, Zendaya may find herself back at the beginning, with long, frizzy curls akin to her character, Rue.
