Marc Jacobs and Sofia Coppola hit the late-night circuit in a classic, coordinated black and white color scheme on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” on Wednesday night in New York City. During their time on the show, they discussed their forthcoming documentary “Marc by Sofia,” which takes the filmmaker behind the scenes at Jacobs’ fashion shows and creative process, curating new collections and reflecting on past designs.
Jacobs shared with Meyers how, when it comes to pulling ideas that previously did not work and incorporating them into a new collection, it’s not about a choice being deliberate. “Things just kind of come up,” Jacobs said. “There was no plan, like, ‘Let’s put this away to be re-looked at in the future.’ It was just like, things come up and they feel right in that moment and you just kind of go for it. Sometimes we drop them again. But if we go for it and it works, it’s great.”
Coppola followed up on the couturier’s musings, saying, “Just sitting backstage, Marc was looking at my jacket, and he said — it’s from a few years ago — ‘Oh, I wouldn’t have put the satin trim on now.'”

The American designer and Oscar-winning filmmaker each chose sartorial subdued elegance with a casual approach. Jacobs wore a pair of tapered cropped black trousers with a black shirt and coordinated blazer with angular, silky lapels.
Jacobs also wore a squiggly headband, a style recently seen on the runway during Paris Fashion Week. As for Coppola, the “Lost in Translation” filmmaker wore a shimmering long-sleeve Marc Jacobs-designed jacket, which she paired with a plain white shirt and black pants.
Directed by Sofia Coppola, “Marc by Sofia” captures the creative process of designer Marc Jacobs through the season, with the designer reflecting on his own inspirations, ingenuity and past. The film hits theaters March 27.
