Gwendoline Christie is the leader of the bleached eyebrows trend.
Celebrating Paul Thomas Anderson’s new action film, “One Battle After Another,” in which she stars alongside Teyana Taylor and Leonardo DiCaprio, the 46-year-old actress arrived at the red carpet premiere in Hollywood on Monday night with barely-there brows. The look wasn’t unusual for Christie considering she’s gravitated toward blond shades in the past, however, her eyebrows were noticeably lighter.
Outside the TCL Chinese Theatre, Christie matted down her stark blond brows to match the coloring of her roots. The naked aesthetic was juxtaposed by her blue eyes, cat-eye eyeliner and dusty-rose lip shade. The dark brown under layers of her hair peeked through against her satin blouse, calling attention to the black mascara dressing her eyelashes.

Two days prior, the “Wednesday” star stepped out for the Creative Arts Emmy Awards with golden-blond brows. The thin, rectangular shape of her brows was prominent next to her honey-colored hair crafted by stylist Adir Abergel. Here, her makeup, imagined by Chanel artist Kate Lee, was cool-toned, comprised of faded browns and murky taupes.
Christie’s commitment to her barely there brows positions her as a leader of the wider trend within the beauty and fashion lexicon, which has already influenced other runway models and celebrities such as Jenna Ortega and Alex Consani to try the naked aesthetic. Ortega and Christie boasted the look on the red carpet for the “Wednesday” season two press tour back in August. Ortega’s brows, however, appeared completely shaved.
For the viral Maison Margiela Artisanal 2024 show in Paris, Christie was tapped to walk the runway, taking the concept of whimsical brows to the next level by covering her natural shape and drawing skinny, black lines over top. Her doll-like visage sent the internet into a full-blown frenzy, with many praising the prism of beauty, fashion and theater apparent in the look.
