Announced this Wednesday, Sinéad O’Connor passed away at 56 years old. The Irish singer first gained the ears of many with her single “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which was written by the late Prince. Following her 1990 single, O’Connor went had a controversial moment while appearing on an episode of “Saturday Night Live” in 1992, where she ripped a picture of Pope John Paul II and said, “Fight the real enemy.”
Before announcing her retirement in 2021, O’Connor went on to perform her music, share her opinion on different social issues and be transparent about her mental health experiences. Here, WWD takes a closer look at O’Connor’s life throughout the years, remembering the Dublin-born songstress.
