Kamala Harris, the 49th Vice President of the United States, made history as the first woman, African American, and Asian American in this role. A dedicated Democratic Party member, she ran as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2024 election.
After President-elect Donald Trump’s victory, Harris addressed the public on Wednesday at her alma mater, Howard University, a renowned historically black college and university (HBCU).
“While I concede this election,” she said, “I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign.”
“I will never give up a fight for a future where Americans can pursue their dreams ambitions and aspirations,” she said. “America, she added, “will never give up the fight for our democracy.”
Before her vice presidency and presidential campaign, Harris served as U.S. Senator from California from 2017 to 2021 and as California’s Attorney General from 2011 to 2017. On August 6, she announced Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate.
Here, WWD reflects on her presidential campaign rally style and red carpet appearances over the years.
