Fantasia Barrino attended the Golden Globes 2024 in Los Angeles on Sunday, wearing a dramatic gown from Dolce & Gabbana.
Barrino was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for “The Color Purple.” The actress’ black and purple gown paid homage to the film, as did producer Oprah Winfrey‘s purple Louis Vuitton dress.
Barrino’s custom gown featured a strapless black velvet corset top with matching opera gloves. The midsection featured a white bedazzled segment through the hips, and then the gown flared out into a light purple, tulle skirt. The “American Idol” winner adorned herself with Ring Concierge jewelry, including several rings and dangling diamond earrings that stood out with her pixie cut.
On the red carpet, Barrino spoke with WWD. Chatting with host Jeannie Mai and Booth Moore, WWD’s West Coast executive editor, Barrino explained her relationship with fashion. “I feel like fashion is almost like singing to me and doing movies. You submit yourself over to the artist to wear it and express yourself. And that depends on how you feel on that day. So for me, I like to embody a lot of things. I’m a little girl from the country, that they never thought would be here. So I can put on a little bit of anything and embody it.”
Although this is Barrino’s first Golden Globe nomination, the actress previously played Celie Harris-Johnson in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “The Color Purple” in 2007.
The 81st annual Golden Globe Awards, held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, celebrate the biggest achievements across film and television in 2023.
