CARPET CAPTIVATION: Gabriella Khalil‘s signature escapist aesthetic that transcends hospitality and even fashion has now been extended to carpets. Known for her work as the creative director of the Palm Heights Hotel and Garden Spa in the Cayman Islands, the aesthete has teamed with Danish carpet design firm Ege.
In Milan, they unveiled Common Ground, their forthcoming collaboration, with an exhibition during Design Week. Hosted in a midcentury building in the heart of Milan, the space was designed by Ottavio Cabiati and Luigi Brambilla in 1958 and is the new home for the designers and community that pertain to design-forward platform and international event Convey.
Rich with playful, nature-driven graphics and rhythmic patterns, Gabriella Khalil x Ege designs were awash in warm cream and rich chocolate shades, emphasized with black accents for added depth.

“Collaborating with them has brought forward the unique opportunity to bring the collection and Ege’s knowhow to a wider B2C consumer audience, for the first time. I’m thrilled to see these carpets come to life and into real homes around the world,” said Khalil, who is also an honorary committee member of premier collectible design and art platform Salon Art+Design.
Earlier this month Khalil partnered with Bergdorf Goodman and USM Modular Furniture on a new design residency that signals the retailer’s deeper move into the home and lifestyle space. Running through August, the initiative will occupy the retailer’s seventh floor, with an accompanying window installation overlooking 58th Street.
Titled “In Good Company,” the residency marks Khalil’s first venture of this kind in a retail setting. The installation blends showroom and interior space, offering shoppers a chance to experience and purchase a mix of collectible furniture, vintage pieces and decorative objects.
