The Philadelphia 76ers secured their place in the NBA playoffs by winning its play-in game against the Orlando Magic Wednesday night, and Tyrese Maxey led the team while debuting his first signature sneaker from New Balance.
The New Balance Maxey v1 borrows its aesthetic from the wildly popular 9060 lifestyle sneaker. A sculpted sole unit carries waves up into the upper, and the pattern continues through the heel counter to go along with tear-drop-shaped cut outs on the overlay at the forefoot. The blue used in those two elements will also be applied to a tag that will appear on all future colorways of the sneaker.
Part of the lacing system is borrowed from the 2002, the 2010 running shoe that would later be reinterpreted as another successful lifestyle model, the 2002R.

“I wanted my shoe to have an iconic look that you don’t need to see the ‘N’ to know it’s a New Balance shoe,” Maxey said in a press release. “To me, the 9060 is a classic NB silhouette, so I pulled a lot of inspiration from that to bring lifestyle to the basketball court. I worked really closely with the New Balance product team to make sure the shoe looks good and feels good on and off the court. I’m really excited for people to test it out.”
Technical details for the Maxey v1 have yet to be divulged.
Maxey is now the second current NBA player to have a signature model from New Balance, joining Kawhi Leonard, whose Kawhi 5 was just unveiled last week. Cooper Flagg, the favorite to win Rookie of the Year, is widely expected to become the third.
The New Balance Maxey v1 will release later this year through New Balance’s website and select third-party retailers. Pricing is set at $130.
