Saucony’s Shadow Sneaker Gets a Velcro Update in Latest Engineered Garments Collab

The release follows the duo’s first collaborative shoe, which launched in October.

Engineered Garments’ founder and creative head Daiki Suzuki is taking on Saucony’s Shadow sneaker for the brands’ latest collaboration.

Set to launch on April 10, Suzuki added Velcro closures to the silhouette – a design detail he’s been “fascinated” with since childhood.

“I think it all started with a simple fact: when I was a child, I remember being fascinated by a new kind of sneaker I saw at the time that used Velcro instead of laces,” the designer said. “Since then, I’ve owned and worn several sneakers that used two-strap or three-strap Velcro closures.”

The sneaker also features and upper that combines mixed mesh with premium leather overlays and “Engineering Garments” branding on the side. A debossed “Saucony” logo appears on the heel tab of each shoe, and “Engineering Garments” is printed on the insole. The shoe will be available in white, black and brown colorways.

“Unlike regular shoelaces, sneakers without laces look visually cleaner and smarter, and I think they are a very effective design from a fashion perspective,” Suzuki added. “This unique Velcro strap was probably developed for children, but I thought it might work just as well if used for adults as it is. That was the initial idea. The end result, I think, is a very mature, simple, elegant, and sleek design.”

The Saucony x Engineered Garments Shadow Double Velcro Sneakers, which retail for $125, will be available at Saucony.com and select retailers.

The release follows the duo’s first collaborative shoe, the Engineered Garments x Saucony Shadow Original Wingtip, which launched in October. The style was a tailoring-inspired spin on the retro sneaker.

In February, Saucony parent company Wolverine Worldwide said total revenue in the fourth quarter of 2025 was $517.5 million, up 4.6 percent from $494.7 million the same time last year. Net earnings in the quarter were $32.5 million, up 36.6 percent from $23.8 million the same time last year.

In an interview with FN after the company’s earnings call in February, Wolverine Worldwide president and chief executive officer Chris Hufnagel was upbeat on the company’s results.

“Saucony posted an all-time record year last year, which is great,” the CEO told FN. “And I think we remain optimistic about where our brands are, and I’m really pleased with the transformation the company has gone through. Not only the turnaround we did, but the momentum we continue to build.”
