One of the most intriguing new Nike shoes to surface this year isn’t a sneaker, but one of the brand’s latest slip-on recovery slides.

First shared by House of Heat, official Nike e-commerce product images have surfaced of a new slide believed to be named the Mind 001. While the specifics around the unreleased model are currently a bit murky, the insoles read “Nike Mind” and “Mind Science Department,” the latter of which seems to hint at a new, perhaps fictitious wing of the sportswear brand.

Whether a product of an actual Mind Science Department or not, the shoe is highly conceptual, leaning on a blocky, blob-like foam structure that’s ripe with ventilation cutouts across its medial side. Its ribbed lateral section features a vertical Swoosh logo, while the top of the forefoot features a perforated section in a textile material. Underfoot, the shoe is loaded with nearly two dozen cushioning pods which will seemingly provide a massage-like feel.

Far from Nike’s first foray into recovery footwear, the Mind 001 is arguably its most experimental aesthetically. The brand found great success in 2025 with its ReactX Rejuven8 shoes, so the Mind 001 could be another attempt to capture that demographic and those seeking something a bit more unique in the same process.

And for those who are serious about their recovery, Nike in ’25 collaborated with Hyperice on the $900 Hyperboot, a high-tech high-top which combines heat and compression for both warm-up and post-workout benefits.

While the specifics of the so-called Mind Science Department remain unclear, the sportswear brand shared in January a behind-the-scenes look at the Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL), which resides on the top floor of the LeBron James Innovation Center on the company’s world headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

“The NSRL has expanded its field of focus in recent years to include mind sciences (sensory and cognitive tasks in the brain) as a growing area of expertise,” read the January photo essay titled “The Spaces Where Nike Creates the Future of Sport.”

Previewed in a Light Smoke Gray/Photon Dust/Hyper Crimson/Chrome colorway, the Nike Mind 001 is expected to be released soon for a to-be-announced retail price. The style code for this pair is HQ4307-003 and it’s likely the brand has plans for several more colorways in the future.
