This New Nike Sneaker Is Being Compared to Frankenstein’s Monster

The special-edition style is arriving at select retailers now.

Unsurprisingly, Nike’s upcoming Halloween offerings continue to expand, this time adding the retro Dunk Low model to the lineup. The soon-to-be-released style will join other spooky season-themed pairs from the brand including zombie-inspired Ja 3s and Air Max 95 OG Big Bubbles covered in houseflies

Shifting from those themes, this new Dunk Low SE is said to don a “Frankenstein”-inspired aesthetic. While Nike hasn’t disclosed any official theme behind the upcoming special-edition look, the shoe’s Brown Kelp/Black/Medium Olive colorway and pieced-together appearance has led many sneaker fans to compare the look to Frankenstein’s monster.

Supporting this theory is the shoe’s unique material composition and detailing. The pair mixes soft suedes with canvas and features exposed outward stitching along its heel panel. Stitched circular eyelets and a fully embroidered Swoosh add to the sewn-up styling, as do the sneaker’s textured shoelaces and x-mark toe perforations.

Nicknamed “Camo Olive” at retailers such as Shoe Palace, where select sizes are currently available, this fall-ready Dunk Low SE will be accompanied by a similarly styled colorway in White/Off Noir/Sanded Purple/White. Whether this supports the speculated Frankenstein inspiration or not remains to be seen, but it’s clear the pairs have been given a special treatment that’s atypical of standard Dunks.

Unless it’s the case of an officially licensed collaboration, Nike typically does not make explicit reference of the inspirations behind shoes which may borrow from entertainment, literature and pop culture.

In the 2000s, Nike released a memorable Frankenstein-inspired Air Force 1 Low. That pair featured a Green Baan patent leather upper and red stitch marks to represent Mary Shelley’s 1818 creation.

As mentioned, this Nike Dunk Low SE is already beginning to arrive at select retailers with a nike.com release expected soon. The style retails for $120 and its style code is HV4452-300.
