One of Nike’s first Foamposite sneakers is returning next month in a colorway much like the original 1999 version of the shoe.
The Nike Air Flightposite will be released mid-June in a “Sail” style. With a full colorway of sail/black/metallic silver, the futuristic late-‘90s sneaker features a molded Foamposite shell upper in an off-white shade. Black contrast fills in the Neoprene sleeve and outsole, while a silver carbon fiber plate adds midfoot support and a pop of metallic.
While it’s not a one-to-one match, the upcoming Air Flightposite style is reminiscent of a player-exclusive version of the shoe worn by former NBA player Tim Duncan during the 1999-00 season. The San Antonio Spurs legend’s version featured a pearlized sheen with personalized tongue stitching and a white toe Swoosh, while the new pair features blacked-out branding.

In terms of Nike’s Foamposite lineage, the series began in 1997 with the Air Foamposite One, most famously worn by Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway. That same year, Nike released the Swoosh-equipped Air Foamposite Pro, which was worn by other NBA greats including Duncan.
By ’99, Nike had introduced the next evolution of Foamposite basketball sneakers with the Air Flightposite. Popular on the court in its early days, the model quickly caught on with the same style-obsessed set who made the original Foamposite famous off the court. Especially favored by the Washington metropolitan area, it’s far more common to see the Air Flightposite worn with jeans than basketball shorts nowadays.
After releasing the sneaker’s original metallic gold and triple black colorways, Nike will issue the latest Sail look on June 12. It will be released via Snkrs and from select Nike Sportswear retailers for $250. Its style code is HJ4481-100.
