New Balance’s Brand-new Premium Low-profile Lifestyle Sneaker Is Coming Out Soon

Details on the brand's croc-embossed Gator Run.

New Balance is continuing to lean into the low-profile sneaker trend with a brand-new model that’s quietly arriving at retailers now.

The New Balance Gator Run is the latest addition to the Boston-based sportswear company’s low-profile lifestyle sneakers. With only two “Croc Patent Leather” pack styles surfacing thus far, the model’s name draws from the sneaker’s croc-embossed patent leather upper, which is seen on Black/Black (style code UGTR2SV) and Shadow Red/Black (UGTR17G) colorways.

The new Gator Run model features a sleek, pointed 1980s-informed silhouette paired with a rugged spiked outsole. With a toothy aesthetic that furthers the croc theme, the alligator-inspired sole doubles as functional traction.

While the Gator Run itself is new, the lifestyle sneaker takes heavy inspiration from New Balance’s 1982 Gator turf shoe. The key selling point of the multipurpose ’82 model was its outsole, which New Balance described as featuring an “innovative multi-dimensional pyramid design” able to penetrate a variety of outdoor playing surfaces.

“In a marketplace full of refined silhouettes, the Gator Run is bold and unmistakable. Its distinct silhouette celebrates New Balance heritage while feeling fresh and serves as a reminder that design can be both functional and expressive. Sometimes the most memorable details come from revisiting the past and looking at solutions through a new lens,” Taylor Canby, director of design at New Balance, said in a press release.

Despite its low-key aesthetic, the Gator Run appears to be a rather premium offering from New Balance. The sneaker features a tonal patent leather upper paired with a leather tongue and contrasting white shoelaces. For added texture, the lip of the tongue and heel feature a glossy leather without the croc treatment.

New Balance found considerable success with its new lifestyle offerings in 2025, something the brand has proven to have a knack for. Highlights included the low-profile 204L, the made-in-UK Allerdale and the retro-inspired Abzorb 2000 and 2010 models.

The New Balance Gator Run will be released globally from newbalance.com and select retailers on Jan. 21. Retail pricing is set at $130.
