Kendrick Lamar Wore Deion Sanders’ Classic Nike Sneakers for the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show

Details on the Nike Air DT Max '96 sneakers worn by the show-stealing rapper.

After appearing in a pair of Asics sneakers during a press conference in the lead up to Super Bowl LIX, man of the moment Kendrick Lamar took to the halftime show stage in a pair of Nike sneakers made famous by Deion Sanders.

For his adrenaline-fueled performance, which featured cameos from Samuel Jackson, Serena Williams, SZA and Mustard — and plenty of barbs at rival Drake — the GNX rapper laced up Sanders’ signature Nike Air DT Max ’96 sneakers in the “Colorado Away” colorway. Featuring a mostly white and black upper, the shoes are accented with dashes of gold branding which match the colors of the Colorado Buffaloes, the team Sanders coaches.

Nike Men’s Air DT Max ‘96 Shoes

The “Colorado Away” style of the Nike Air DT Max ’96 was released in September 2024 for a retail price of $170. On the same day, a similar colorway was released which swapped the shoe’s black claw cut-outs for a metallic gold shade. While popular upon their releases, the sneakers can now be found on the secondary market for under their retail price — although it’s possible Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl endorsement could cause a price increase.

In recent years, Kendrick Lamar has been seemingly all-in with Nike — which made last week’s Asics appearance all the more surprising. The rapper’s sneaker collaborations began with Reebok in 2015 before he eventually signed with Nike in 2017. His first collaboration with the latter brand came in 2018 in the form of a Nike Cortez emblazoned with his “Damn” album title. He would release several sneakers with Nike through 2019, and most recently, his PgLang company collaborated with Nike subsidiary Converse in 2022.

Despite being closely aligned with Nike, the “Not Like Us” rapper doesn’t appear to have any restrictions against wearing competing brands. In addition to last week’s Asics, Lamar was spotted wearing Kobe Bryant’s Adidas Crazy 8 sneakers in January 2024.
