John Geiger Teases His First Nike Air Force 1 Collab Years After Being Sued for Trademark Infringement

The independent shoe designer settled with Nike in 2022 and agreed to change the design of his GF-01 to avoid infringing on the Air Force 1's trade dress.

John Geiger has teased a full-circle moment via his first official collaboration with Nike.

The John Geiger x Nike Air Force 1 Low comes after Geiger was sued by Nike for trademark infringement. It’s a clear homage to the custom “Misplaced Checks” Air Force 1s the independent shoe designer made with the Shoe Surgeon in 2015, a project that helped raise his profile with sneakerheads.

Starting with an all-white base, several Swooshes with distinct patterns and colors are stacked on top of each other, including snakeskin and crocodile leather. Geiger’s logo is also debossed onto the mudguard, while co-branding appears on the laces.

In addition to photos of the sneaker, Geiger shared images of cardboard inserts confirmed he’ll use the “GF-1” moniker.

Five years after his blockbuster AF1 customs, Geiger introduced his GF-01 model, a riff on the staple Nike shoe that used more premium materials and featured a cursive “g” rather than a Swoosh. Nike sued him in 2021 amid a period of going after other shoe designers, including Warren Lotas.

A statement released by Geiger in 2022 to announce a settlement said: “Nike respects John Geiger as a designer and other designers like him, and both parties are pleased to resolve this dispute in a way that allows John Geiger to continue building his brand while also respecting Nike’s intellectual property rights in its iconic Air Force 1 trade dress.”

No release date has been confirmed for the John Geiger x Nike Air Force 1 Low, the sneaker appears likely to release relatively soon. Footwear News will keep you abreast of any updates.
