Japanese footwear brand Flower Mountain has teamed up with menswear label Universal Works on a capsule inspired by Mount Fuji’s blooming dandelions just in time for spring.
Blending Universal Works’ British utilitarianism with Flower Mountain’s sporty, fun feel, a boxy jacket, shirts, shorts, and a hat are dotted with floral embroidery.
The Nottingham-based label also reworked Flower Mountain’s existing Asuka Uni, Fami Uni and Yamano 3 Uni sneakers in custom colorways.

“We are always happy to work with experts in their field, hopefully produce some cool things, and have fun in the process,” said David Keyte, Universal Works’ co-founder.
“We liked the idea of highlighting the top stitching as this evokes similar ideas from traditional workwear and jeanswear. The contrast highlights the ‘making’ of the items, something we explore in a lot of classic UW pieces,” he added.
The collaboration comes on the heels of Universal Works’ collaboration with Japanese bag brand Master-piece in March.
That capsule ranged from bags to a selection of ready-to-wear, including over-shirts, track shorts, and a bomber jacket, made from recycled poly tech and tech canvas. Fusing their shared utilitarian sensibilities, the brands jazzed up the collection’s militaristic feel with fun prints and pops of color.
“We at UW always love a mixture of colors and patterns, mixing up colors in one style,” explained David Keyte, Universal Works’ cofounder, over email. “Then throwing in our signature Swedish camo is normal for us and the Master-piece team have a big love of camo too so that worked well. The silhouettes are all about simple hold-all shapes and anatomical straps for comfort — ‘sophisticated simplicity,’ I call it.”
