Viola Davis offered her take on relaxed French Riviera dressing as she arrived at her hotel on Wednesday amid the 78th Cannes Film Festival wearing a Max Mara look with pristine white sneakers from Ahnu.
The actress wore a look from Max Mara’s pre-fall 2025 collection, a black and white ensemble consisting of a collared short sleeve shirt and mini shorts set; both the top and shorts featured a classic pattern of thin horizontal stripes. Davis modeled a swishy bob with side-swept bangs as well as oversized black sunglasses by Max Mara Eyewear and a red lip. She also carried Max Mara’s Whitney bag, a piece that was initially released in 2015 in partnership with Renzo Piano Building Workshop.
Davis completed her look with a pair of clean all-white sneakers from Ahnu, a new “super sneaker”-focused label launched in 2024 and owned by Deckers Brands, which is also home to Hoka and Ugg. She donned the Sequence 1.1 Sport sneaker, which features a leather upper, front and rear rockers, and a carbon plate. The low-top, lace-up shoes retail for $240.

Davis is serving as the juror this year for the Lights on Women’s Worth Award at the Cannes Film Festival. The L’Oréal Paris prize recognizes a female director in the Short Film category as well as the La Cinef student film category.
“Supporting women filmmakers isn’t just about creating opportunities — it’s about making sure the stories that shape our world reflect the voices, experiences and brilliance of all people,” Davis said.
When it comes to her formal looks at Cannes, the EGOT winner might stick with classic black and white like she did for the closing ceremony in 2024, when she showcased an Ami gown with black platform heels, or go with a pop of color, like she did when she wore a lively green Alexander McQueen suit with matching green heels to accept the Kering Women in Motion Award in 2022.
