Selena Gomez Joins the Minimalist Mule Wave in Black Peep-toe Stilettos

Her Black Suede Studios Brea Mules placed her alongside Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski in this season’s barely there shoe style.

Selena Gomez kept in simple in SoHo on Monday, wearing a pair of Brea mules from Black Suede Studio, a clean slip-on silhouette that has become a staple in the summer’s barely there shoe trend.

Her pair featured a minimalist matte leather vamp cut into a peep toe, set on slim stiletto heels. She kept the rest of her look just as pared down, opting for a black minidress with asymmetrical sleeves.

Mules in this vein have been a celebrity mainstay over the past few months. Hailey Bieber has rotated Saint Laurent’s ruched Babylone mules throughout her New York appearances, wearing them with everything from tailored shorts to vintage minidresses. Julia Fox tapped the label’s Romy mule in August, their wide strap and angled heel grounding a retro-sport look at Cara Delevingne’s birthday. And Emily Ratajkowski leaned on Paris Texas’ glossy Lidia mule during her “Too Much” press run, styling the heel multiple ways across late-night appearances.

The draw is in the cut: one strap, one heel and the rest left bare. Whether in Saint Laurent’s branded gloss or Paris Texas’ patent finish, the silhouette works as a quiet line under louder looks. Designers from Saint Laurent to Paris Texas have leaned into the form, while stars like Gomez demonstrate the draw of a no-logo, no-fuss version.

This isn’t Gomez’s first minimalist shoe moment this season. In May, she chose sharp white pumps with an exaggerated point for Rare Beauty’s fourth annual Mental Health Summit in Los Angeles. Last month, at the brand’s Eau de Parfum Launch Party at the Santa Monica Post Office, she kept it streamlined in Cult Gaia’s strappy white Bambu sandals. Together, the choices trace a clear throughline in her footwear this year — a pivot toward pared-back silhouettes.
