La La Anthony Takes on the Transparent Heels Trend for La Placita de Bacardí Party in NYC

The shoes complemented a David Koma dress.

La La Anthony was out in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn on Thursday at the La Placita de Bacardí party showcasing a pink David Koma dress with a pair of clear heels. The transparent or semi-sheer heels trend has proved to have staying power in the fashion world.

Anthony slid into a simplistic pair with a fully transparent curved strap across the toes. The sole was pointed and the stiletto heel slightly flared, both elements of the silhouette offering additional flamboyance to the look.

Showcased by other stars like Jennifer Lopez, who recently wore a custom pair of transparent mule heels from Femme LA, the clear heels look has been around for decades. The style has been applied to a range of silhouettes like mules, platforms and classic pumps. As noted in a 2012 WWD article about the prevalence of acrylic in runway fashion, Dries Van Noten spoke of the Plexi he utilized for heels.

“I found something a little magical about it,” Van Noten said. “Because there is a transparency to it, it looks like they are walking on their toes, which is quite nice, that feeling. And you have that edgy thing. We love to combine it with a normal shoe, a normal boot, in a normal color — but you have to give that unexpected feeling.”

Anthony’s shoes accompanied a semi-sheer fitted David Koma dress in a carnation pink hue. The silhouette featured slender straps, a scoop neck and a high slit at the top of the left thigh while the long skirt trailed the ground on the other side. The thin mesh fabric gathered at the hips allowing for a more complicated textural landscape. Anthony went bold with her accessories as she modeled thick silver hoop earrings of large circumference as well as stacked silver bangles on one wrist.

Alongside fellow Puerto Rican guest Joan Smalls, Anthony tried on the Bacardí x Tier “Rooted in Rhythm” merchandise collection at the event. The evening channeled Caribbean vibes — Bacardí is based in Puerto Rico — with tropical décor and music. DJ Membona, who is Afro-Puerto Rican, tapped into her heritage as she played reggaeton, salsa and Afro-Caribbean beats in her set. Designer Brandon Blackwood was also present as he showed support for his friend Nigeria Ealey, founder and creative director of Tier.
