Givenchy is keeping the ballet flat trend alive with a sharp new entry to the market: the Sliced Square ballerina.
The shoe design is influenced by Sarah Burton’s fall 2025 ready-to-wear collection for Givenchy, which hit the Paris runway in March. The collection found inspiration in Hubert de Givenchy’s archival couture dresses from the 1950s, which were modernized by slicing micro length hemlines. Aligning with this, the ballet flat was given the same treatment by slicing the last in front to establish “a sharp and modern silhouette.” Indeed, the result is a statement square toe, giving an edge to the dance footwear silhouette typically associated with a softer rounded toe.
Another striking element defines the style: the flats feature a thick elastic band across the foot, which mirrors the grosgrain belts adorning the cocktail and evening dresses of the collection; a leather label, ready Givenchy Paris, creates additional parallels. Available now, the Sliced Square ballerina style is offered in several colorways, including black, red and powder patent specchio leather as well as silver and gold mirror leather.

The fall 2025 collection was Sarah Burton’s first collection for Givenchy; the designer took up the mantle of creative director in 2024. Miles Socha reviewed the collection for WWD, writing, “The clothes were superb, peerlessly realized and immediately desirable; sometimes young and zesty, but most often the pinnacle of adult sophistication. Here was a show where you could sense how proud the models were to wear them, and the entire cast of diverse sizes and ages looked gorgeous.”
