Coming out one year after the inaugural 1460 boot, Dr. Martens introduced the 1461: a unisex three-eyelet Oxford style known for its durability, comfort and versatility. Inspired by the date like the 1460, the shoe’s moniker references April 1, 1961. With its air-cushioned sole and yellow welt stitch, the style has become a go-to for a range of Dr. Martens customers through the years.

The “sepia gray” tone of the full-grain leather shoe is created from a blend of natural oils and waxes, achieving a deep color and subtle pull-up which ages over time. The shoe is detailed with antique gold eyelets, round wax laces and a special-edition swing tag celebrating England’s Cobb Lane factory. The original Goodyear-welted, air-cushioned, bouncing-soled ground is cut with a signature grooving pattern and features the 1461’s signature double stitch as well as Dr. Martens’ famous yellow welt stitching.

Ramona Riedzewski, Dr. Martens head of archive, said in a statement, “2026 marks 65 years since the first 1461 shoe rolled off the production line in Wollaston, Northamptonshire. For over six decades, this classic, yet instantly recognisable silhouette has moved far beyond its workwear origins — worn for school, work, interviews, gigs, weddings and every milestone in between. Built with Dr. Martens craftsmanship, durability and design, the three eyelet 1461 shoe has been passed down through generations, earning its own cultural significance alongside the iconic 1460 boot.”

The milestones keep coming for the English brand. Last year, Dr. Martens celebrated the 65th anniversary of the 1460 boot.
