Flats have always been a go-to for comfort and ease of dressing. These days, to be flat-out chic means wearing a little heel — or no heel at all.
The classic ballet flat is still around: In fact, Valentino showed a literal ballet slipper (the strap adorned with its iconic rockstuds) on its dance-inspired runway. But for fall, other styles are encroaching on the ballet flat’s reign. Isabel Marant showed a heavily strapped rockabilly look in leopard. The new version of the loafer mule was spotted in several collections, including Chanel‘s and Alexandre Birman’s. Theory also did it, but with a brogue twist.
