No woman’s wardrobe is complete without a pair — or two, or three — of solid black pumps. This season however, that simple staple may have to be at the bottom of your shopping list: There are just too many heels full of texture, color and detail. We’re thinking Brian Atwood‘s multicolor suede interpretation with a Seventies flair, Céline‘s white, grommet-studded style full of rockabilly swagger and Rupert Sanderson‘s tawny, abstracted cheetah print version — to name just a few of fall’s options.
And if you must have black, it doesn’t have to be basic. Cases in point: a sleek lug-sole stiletto from Calvin Klein, a hairy version with a clear Lucite heel that fades to black from Creatures of the Wind or Saint Laurent’s patent-leather style whose heel is tied with a jaunty little rhinestone bow.
